Renschler Picolario Talk
The Renschler Picolario Talk vario/altimeter is no longer the only variometer on the market, but it was the first, and it has been around for a long time. That means it is probably backed up by the most expensive R&D in the industry, and it is still by far the most heavily-specified. Designed for use in radio-control gliders and sailplanes, you get an audio variometer, an altimeter with vox-readout, a battery monitor to check the aircraft batteries continuously, an inteference warning and a range warning! This instrument is much more than a vario, and that is why it costs more than the rest - it saves expensive models on a regular basis. The only other item you need is a radio to receive all this valuable information. (see below!)

Midland G7
The Midland G7 has replaced the outgoing Stabo XP400, being a very high quality transceiver that is loaded with functions. Thus it isn't the cheapest on the market! It is a dual-band set which is supplied with a charger and NiMh cells.

£71.50

Close-Talk
The Close Talk performs almost as well as the Midland, but is desirable to those who want to save £15, and are willing to make a small sacrifice in performance and spec.

TEK head (T-Tail)
The Tek head pitot tube gives some models a pleasing scale appearance, but also converts the Picolario Talk to the delights of Total Energy Compensation. This version is for aircraft featuring a T-Tail. The high price is unavoidable when you are using stainless rather than alloy tube, and engaging in micro-engineering.

£37.50

TEK head (V-Tail)
The Tek head pitot tube gives some models a pleasing scale appearance, but also converts the Picolario Talk to the delights of Total Energy Compensation. This is the version for V-Tailed machines. Stainless steel involving expensive micro-engineering.

Red Button
The Red Button allows you to programme your Picolario Talk without removing it from the aircraft, which can be quite an advantage when you are having to work in confined spaces.

Earphone
The ear-phone is ergonomically designed in order to be as comfortable as possible. The Picolario Talk will give you extended duration flights, so it is an important consideration. There are cheaper earphones around, but this one isn't a pain! Quite apart from the avoidance of noise polution, there is no point letting everyone get the benefit of your Picolario! Using an earphone keeps the information private.
