Moyes Delta Gliders Moyes Delta Gliders were the first series producers of hang gliders in the World. Bill Moyes started the company in 1964, and he and his son Steve are truly Legends of Hang Gliding. 42 years on, the company is still owned and run by the Moyes family, with Vicky, Jenny and lea all involved in the management of the business. It would be an understatement to say that Simon feels honoured to be the UK distributor for the Moyes organisation. He says that when he grows up he wants to be one of the Moyes Boys!
North Wing One of our new ventures for 2007, our Sole UK Distributorship for North Wing promises to be rather exciting!
North Wing are a very-well established manufacturer in USA, but the UK's local certification requirements have prevented their involvement in our market.....until now!
The CAA's new sub-115kg single seater classification, introduced at the instigation of the BMAA, opens the market up to light weight machines that don't have to go through Section S. North Wing's ATF trike fits the bill perfectly, and is backed up by five years of series production. So you won't have to fly a prototype - this is a proven machine.
North Wing offer a choice of two different wings to be used with the trike, so you are going to be spoilt for choice. Keep an eye on our website for more developments. We are anticipating the first shipment in early August, and until that time we cannot be certain what the UK prices will be. The shipping, tax and duty are all very expensive additions to the US purchase price, so only time will tell.
Harnesses We are sole UK distributors for the hang gliding harnesses from Moyes, Von Blon and Keller. The three ranges are different in many respects, so are actually complementary.
Reserves We are the sole UK distributors for reserves from Charly and Firebird, and we also sell the excellent Metamorfosi reserve systems. Simon enjoyed an emergency deployment of his Charly Revolution 1 whilst flying a paraglider in the Alps in August, and emerged almost totally unscathed - so he really does know what he is talking about when it comes to reserves! We carry a wide range so as to cater for all requirements. Please call if you wish to discuss the different options. If you want useful background information we recommend the Metamorfosi website, where you will find a great deal of useful knowledge born out of experience and product testing. PLEASE NOTE: When calculating the weight rating of the system you are buying, we agree with Metamorfosi regarding the degree to which the weight of the glider should be included in your calculations. So, in the case of a normal hang glider, you ignore the weight of the glider completely. Some "authorities" advise that you include the weight of the glider, which will make a huge difference to the size of canopy. Usually, these authorities have conducted no actual testing themselves. Go with the Metamorfosi method of calculation - they have done the research first-hand!
Helmets Firebird UK are the sole UK distributors for Charly helmets, and don't see any need to sell other makes. Indeed, Simon feels he may well owe his life to a particular orange Charly Insider which was destroyed during a rather violent accident. Simon had a bad headache, but his head sustained no lasting damage (or so he insists).
Instruments We are the Sole UK importers for Renschler, who manufacture instruments for both Free Flight and Radio-controlled sailplanes (see separate section of our shop). We also sell Brauniger instruments. Choosing an instrument is a very personal matter, and audio tone and the quality of the visual display are important factors. Simon invariably flies with Renschler varios, Harriet and Martyn choose Brauniger, so honours are divided.
Frame Hardware One of the side benefits of buying a Moyes glider is that we carry a huge amount of spare parts right here in the UK. We have only added the uprights to the online shop, but we have spares for all the Moyes gliders we have imported since 1992. Contact us for details on any other parts. We also have a useful range of retro-fit Uprights for certain of the old UK-built Airwave hang gliders we used to sell before we changed over to Moyes.
